Muhammad al-Idrisi completed the Tabula Rogeriana in 1154 for King Roger II of Sicily. This work synthesized geographical data from Greek, Roman, and Islamic traditions. The orientation follows the medieval convention of placing south at the top. This perspective centers the Mediterranean and the Arabian Peninsula. Al-Idrisi spent fifteen years interviewing travelers to ensure technical accuracy. The document remained the most precise world map for three centuries.
