Ghassan Kanafani pioneered the genre of Palestinian resistance literature through his novels and journalism. He authored Men in the Sun and Returning to Haifa to document the displacement of 1948. This graphic references his 1970 interview with Richard Carleton in Beirut. Kanafani utilized the metaphor of a sword and a neck to describe asymmetrical power dynamics. He rejected the framing of such conflicts as mere conversations. He served as a spokesperson for the PFLP and edited the newspaper al-Hadaf. His death in 1972 established him as a permanent intellectual symbol of the Palestinian cause. His work continues to influence global discourse on liberation and identity.
